As a Christie Clinic pediatrician, Dr. Gilpin specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders or illnesses from infancy to young adulthood. In her subspecialty of medical genetics, Dr. Gilpin has experience in the care of children and adults with inherited disorders, including birth defects, inherited cancers, muscular dystrophies, neurodegenerative disorders, and developmental syndromes. She sees families for preconceptional and prenatal counseling for inherited disorders. Dr. Gilpin also does risk analysis for familial cancers.
After receiving her bachelor's degree in chemistry from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, Dr. Gilpin earned her doctorate of medicine from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1987. She completed a residency in pediatrics at San Francisco Children's Hospital in 1991 and a two-year fellowship in medical genetics at the University of Missouri in 1993.
Dr. Gilpin is board-eligible in pediatrics and board-trained in medical genetics. She is also a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and the Genetics Task Force of Illinois. She is active in several of the Task Force's subcommittees. Dr. Gilpin currently serves as chair of the Pediatrics Department at Provena Covenant Medical Center.
Dr. Gilpin and her husband, Charles, have two children, Elizabeth and Sean. As a family, they enjoy skating, hiking, and fishing.
