LaDonna Marie Helm was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. She is the youngest of nine children and the proud aunt of twelve nieces and six nephews. She also has a three-year old son. Ms. Helm attended the University of Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating from the University, she worked as a teaching assistant at Washington Early Childhood Center. Two months later, she was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Leal School in Urbana, Illinois, where she has been teaching for the past seven years.
