Live Interactive Chat

November 9, 2004TV, Computers, and Video Games—How Much Is Too Much?Carol Weisheit
Early Childhood Resource Specialist, STARnet Regions I & III

With so many TV programs, computer games, and video systems available, how can teachers and parents sort out the possible negative effects on children? Computers seem to be everywhere, and you can find television shows and videos for any age level—even babies! This Chat is focused on answers to questions such as, “Is there any evidence that it might harm a child if the family just doesn't let him/her watch TV at all?” “Is there any television/video that is actually beneficial to kids under 3?” “Does limiting a child's screen time mean just television or does it include videos, computer games, movies, and such?” “Wouldn't early learning of computer skills make it more likely that my child will find computers easy to understand?”
