This article explains the double empathy problem: when people with very different experiences of the world interact with one another, they will struggle to empathize with each other. This is true for communications between neurodivergent (ND) and neurotypical people. The problem is not seen as originating from the ND brain.  

Neurodiversity is the idea that differences in how the brain develops are normal. The term also means the inclusion of people with differences. But a person isn’t “neurodiverse.” Learn more in this article.
